Tee-Ball Parents,

If you are wondering what the next steps are for your child in MCLL then hopefully this email will explain.

Evaluations

Tee-Ball players do NOT need to attend player evaluations.

Teams

Tee-ball teams are currently being formed.  They are organized by geographic groupings, past teams, and player requests.  The teams will be created on 2/25 and the rosters sent to the coaches.  You will receive a notification around 3/1 about your team assignment. Next your coach will contact you regarding practice location and times.

Equipment

Uniforms are provided as part of your registration. Equipment you are responsible for includes a glove, helmet and t-ball bat.

Calendar

  • 3/1 - Team Rosters Released

  • 4/7 - Opening Day

  • 4/14 - Games begin

Coach Pitch

Coach Pitch Parents,

If you are wondering what the next steps are for your child in MCLL then hopefully this email will explain.

Evaluations

The player evaluations for the Coach Pitch Division are Saturday February 17th and Sunday February 18th at Montgomery College - Germantown Campus in Building PG.  Specific times are below. See our website if you need a campus map.

Place: Montgomery College - Germantown Campus; Building PG

Players requiring evaluation:

  • All players need to be evaluated unless you receive an email from the league prior to 2/17 explicitly stating you are not required to attend

Date and Times

Your evaluation date and time are based on your division and your LAST NAME. Please try to make the time slot you have been scheduled for.

Coach Pitch sessions:

  • A-L: Saturday 2/17; 11:00

  • M-Z: Sunday 2/18; 11:00

We understand that other commitments may interfere. If you cannot make your specific time slot, please plan to attend the same time slot on the alternate day. Please email evaluations@mclittleleague.org if you have questions.

The evaluations will cover running, fielding, catching pop-ups, throwing and hitting.  Players should wear sneakers and bring a bat, batting helmet, and baseball glove. We will not be evaluating catching so catcher’s gear is not required.  Evaluations will take about 60 minutes.

Draft

After evaluations the player draft will be held on 2/25.  A few days after the draft you will receive a notification about your team assignment. Next your coach will contact you regarding practice location and times. The coach will set a practice day, time and place.

Calendar

  • 2/25 - Team Draft.  Coaches will notify teams shortly after this point.

  • 4/7 - Opening Day

Minors, Majors

Minors/Majors Parents,

If you are wondering what the next steps are for your child in MCLL then hopefully this email will explain.

Evaluations

Our population has grown enough that this year we are able to create a Minors AA and Minors AAA level. Minors AA will roughly be ages 8/9/10, Minors AAA 10/11 and Majors 11/12 with kids playing up as skill allows. This will provide a better experience of play with a tighter grouping of talent and ages than the previous Minors 8-11 age range allowed. The ultimate placement of your player in these levels will be dependent on evaluations. Thus, it is very important to attend evaluations if your child hopes to play up to the next level. If we do not have an evaluation score your child will be placed at the lowest level associated with his/her age.

The player evaluations for the Minors/Majors Division are Saturday February 17th and Sunday February 18th at Montgomery College - Germantown Campus in Building PG.  Specific times are below. See our website if you need a campus map.

Place: Montgomery College - Germantown Campus; Building PG

Players requiring evaluation:

  • All players need to be evaluated unless you receive an email from the league prior to 2/17 explicitly stating you are not required to attend.  Players returning to the same Majors team from 2017 will not need to attend evaluations.

Date and Times

Your evaluation date and time are based on your division and your LAST NAME. Please try to make the time slot you have been scheduled for.

Minors/Majors

  • A-F: Saturday 2/17; 12:30

  • G-L: Saturday 2/17; 1:30

  • M-R: Sunday 2/18; 12:30

  • S-Z: Sunday 2/18; 1:30

We understand that other commitments may interfere. If you cannot make your specific time slot, please plan to attend the same time slot on the alternate day. Please email evaluations@mclittleleague.org if you have questions.

Draft

After evaluations the player draft will be held on 2/21 for Majors and 2/25 for Minors.  A few days after the draft you will receive a notification about your team assignment. Next your coach will contact you regarding practice location and times. The coach will set a practice day, time and place.

Please know that teams do not move up as a team from Minors to Majors. All players moving to Majors are put into the general draft pool and drafted onto an existing Majors team.

Calendar

  • 2/17 or 2/18 - Player Evaluations

  • 2/21 - Majors Team Draft.  Coaches will notify teams shortly after this point.

  • 2/25 - Minors Team Draft.  Coaches will notify teams shortly after this point.

LL Challenger Division and Miracle League

The Little League Challenger Division is a non-aged restricted adaptive special needs baseball program that provides mentally and physically challenged players the opportunity of participating in an outdoor team sport. Baseball skills are taught at appropriate levels depending upon the severity of disability which can include non-verbal players and mentally disabled players, including autism spectrum disorders. Families are invited to contact the Challenger program at https://www.facebook.com/frederickchallenger, or contact Carl Hobbs at 301-788-4545 for more information.

MCLL also supports the Miracle League which provides a program for wheelchair bound players or those with other physical disabilities. The field is a rubberized material and located in Boyds, MD. Players are able to participate with support of on-field buddies that assist where necessary. Please contact Sean Ryan at MLMCBB@gmail.com or 301-509-9832 for additional info on the Miracle League.

Calling all Coaches!

Montgomery County Little League is a 100% volunteer run organization. This means every coach is a volunteer. It also means we are constantly in search of new coaches to fill the ranks. Even if you have never coached before we encourage you to consider it. Prior to the season we will be hosting a Big Al Coaching clinic to help new and seasoned coaches develop their practice plans and run practices. To sign up as a coach you will register through the same SIPlay system in which you register your child. If you want to know more you can email info@mclittleleague.org and ask questions.

New for 2018

  • Field improvements. South Germantown C has a scoreboard and dugouts. NCC2 is getting field drainage installed and some new sod!
  • Price reduction for Lower County Minors/Majors. Lower County historically had higher operating costs, but we have finally closed the gap. Pricing across Upper and Lower divisions is now the same.
  • Softball program expanded. This year softball will be offered for more ages and also in Lower County.
  • Expanded Minors. Due to the large number of players in Minors we will be splitting Minors into AA and AAA into more age specific groupings.
  • New Bat Standard. Little League is implementing the new USA Baseball Bat Standard. Starting Spring 2018 season all bats must carry a USA Baseball marking. For more info see the Little League site.

Did you know?

  • We offer 50% more games than some of our competitors? So if you are price shopping, make sure you factor that in. MCLL plays 12 games where some others play 8 games. Additionally we have playoffs on top of the 12 games that other leagues don't offer.
  • At the conclusion of the regular season MCLL fields teams in the Little League World Series tournament. The same one you see on TV each August. The only way to play in this tournament if you live in Montgomery County is to play in MCLL.
  • In Spring 2017 we had 960 players and 83 teams. That is 30% growth from 2016.
  • We have a family discount. If you have multiple children you receive a $25 discount on each registered child after the first one.

New 2018 USA Bat Standard

posted Sep 30, 2017, 4:25 AM by Darren Petrie

As you are walking through your local Sporting Goods store you may see a bunch of bats that are marked way down and look like they are an incredible deal. "Great!",you say to yourself. "I can grab a new bat for little Johnny to use next Spring!"  Slow down and please think twice. That bat may not be legal next Spring.

Little League (along with other leagues such as Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken) is implementing the new USA Baseball Bat Standard starting 2018. This change has been a couple years in the making and one that we communicated about this past Spring. The bats at the Tee Ball level will have some exceptions so I am primarily addressing Minors (including Coach Pitch) and above.

Starting Spring 2018 season all bats must carry a USA Baseball marking.

If you wish to know more you can check out the Little League site USA BASEBALL BAT STANDARD: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS page.
